I was asleep – and realised I had been sleeping for a while. So I opened my eyes in a panic and looked at the clock – 2:45am. My alarm was set for 2:55am. I was pretty relieved that I didn’t sleep through any alarms, and I was VERY awake. But I still layed there and waited for my alarm to go off. My first thoughts – “Noooooooooooooooooooooooo” and “I don’t want to do this.”
Now im drinking coffee and eating my pre-breakfast snack of homemade vegan rice krispies with peanut butter, molasses, and chocolate. Once those are gone i’ll go downstairs and make oatmeal – I’ve started using trader joes quick(er) steal cut oats. Pretty plain, but easy on the stomach. Plus I add honey and cinnamin 🙂 and chia seeds and hemp seeds, or flax if I have it.
I’ve never been so stressed the day before a race as I was yesterday. Im scared i’ll drink too much water and die – dehydrate and die – Kidney’s fail – die – There’s so much I can do wrong. But hopefully I don’t do stupid things, and hoping I feel the same sort of things as I did during the 12 hour. I hated the feeling of thinking I couldn’t run anymore, but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th winds felt amazing.
I’ll be seeing Kyle at mile 35 – from there he will run me to the finish. Im hoping Im not too much of a baby for those last 15, and hoping I can let him enjoy some of the run. I can’t wait to see him there waiting for me!
Right now it is… 3:53am. I will be leaving at 5:30ish. Race starts at 7:30am. Thanks for reading my pre-race ramble. I hope to live another day, so you can read a post race report.
– The end.
I think it’s 9 days until I take on the 50 miler around Canandaigua Lake.
It’s coming up fast… but Id rather it be sooner than later. I feel like i’ve done everything I could for this round of training. Even though compared to most of the other runners, my training was probably nothing. Since I never posted updates on my training – here’s a little recap:
Week 1 (started at the end of July) – 29.3 miles
Week 2 – 35.1 miles
Week 3 – 43.6 miles
Week 4 – 15.6 miles
Week 5 – 18.5 miles
Week 6 – 47 miles
Week 7 – 43.8 miles
Week 8 – 35.7 miles
Week 9 – 44 miles
Weeks 4 and 5 suffered a bit from moving. These last two weeks will be nothing special. But I ended up doing 3 preview runs on the course, I know what to expect for the 1st 15 miles and the last 15 miles…. that middle 20 though… no idea.
My training wouldn’t have been nearly as good without running with a couple of friends also training for the race. We did a few weekends at Bristol doing giant hill repeats, and 3 weekends running the course in Canandaigua. Even helped an aid station at the Virgil Crest Ultras and got a run in there. If I do well at all at this race – it will be because of who I trained with.
I’ll do a post about the course, and my game plan later. CanLakes is all I have on my mind recently… im terrified.
Just about 9 weeks till CanLakes 50 – and I am now #14 on the waitlist….
Which made this week my first official week of training. I think a shorter training period will be better for me, as I usually fall off the horse after 8ish weeks… so this is perfect! Planning on my first long run this morning – 2.5 to 3 hours… luckily I have a friend on the waitlist too and will be crashing many of his training runs. I have no training plan of my own… I never end up following them. I just plan on running more… and running with people…
In other news… we’ve aquired a house. And will be moving in a few weeks.
Last Saturday I ran Charlies Old Goat Trail run. I wasn’t sure what the course would be like, but expected a few tough hills. What I didn’t expect was open fields and blazing sun… ugh.
So yeah, it was a rough race. I had no energy to do hills, my legs just felt like toast… and a good chunk of it was out in the open. On a cooler day im sure I would have loved the course. I dumped water on my head twice… I never do that!
Here’s the results:
6.5ish miles – 1:03:30
68th overall out of 230
21st female out of 104
2nd in AG out of 6
To the finish!
In other news:
I joined the CanLakes 50 miler wait list. Why? Im not sure… maybe because I figured my chances are slim. I woke up yesterday and for some reason felt like I HAD to sign up. Before yesterday I never even gave it a thought. We will see. But now I can have something to train for… even if I don’t get in, it won’t be a bad thing to put in the miles.
Oh yeah and still a vegan. I think were going on 3 weeks? My daily energy has been good, but running Ive felt tired. But I always run after standing for 8 hours – so that probably doesn’t help.
41st on the CanLakes waitlist
